Bay Area Rap veteran The Jacka died sometime Monday (San Francisco time), in a shooting in Oakland, California., reports CBS San Francisco. He was just 37 years old.

Details are sparse at this time of writing but according to sources, The Jacka was shot in the head sometime Monday evening on MacArthur Boulevard.

Dominic Newton aka began his career in the late 1990s as part of the legendary Bay Area group, Mob Figaz. Later The Jacka pursued his own solo career, debuting with the release “Jacka of the Mob Figaz” back in in 2001, which sold over 30,000 units independently.
