Hero and friend Gigi Rüf has thrown himself headlong into a board project aptly titled Slash by Gigi. After working hard over the last several years on perfecting board design and working closely on his boards when with Uninc and Volcom, it’s a natural step for one of our time’s best backcountry shredders. Built on Nidecker planks, I can’t wait to give one of these a hurl – maybe even while trying to keep up with Gigi in his Tirolean backyard.

A huge congratulations from us mate. Well done and well deserved. Now, kids – buy that shit!

Here’s a quick follow up from the last few days of madness in Berlin. Thanks to Bright for having us and we’re looking forward to breakfast in the hotel next time.

DC just released news of the additions of Nyjah Huston and Mike Mo Capaldi to their international pro team. With these two, it brings DC’s team up to an insane level – I mean, watch out Chris Cole. Mike Mo is one thing – his shit is hot, we all know that, but Nyjah has gone from the cute little dreadlock kid with no pop who mysteriously kickflipped 12 stairs, to being a prospective world’s best ever. He’s only just turned 17 so watch out world.

DC are still head sponsor for the CPH PRO, which announced its 2012 dates earlier today for the 26-29th July, so with a bit of luck, they’ll be bringing the new kids to Copenhagen for a hoon!

We caught up with Chris Cole for an interview while he was in Copenhagen with the entire DC team on the European Riot Tour. We’d been hanging out a few days and… showing the boys the local spots but still had trouble cornering the elusive Chris Cole for a sit down, so we nabbed this chat before a signing at Streetmachine on the way to and from 7-11 where we talked about his rise to the top of skateboarding, changing sponsors and dealing with the pressures of being in the spotlight.

What a lovely chap he is too.

Everybody’s favourite duo, Oscar G and Tom Penny (why do these 2 NOT have a show on MTV?) roll through the streets of Barcelona. All good, but to honest I expect a lot more from skatesauce. 1 trick in a 90 second flick? Come on, normally you guys blow me away. Stept Productions worked with The North Face and K2 Skis, to bring you a ski film that captures the new movement in skiing. Skiers explore the streets of Boston and Chicago in search of the biggest rails in the world, while running into some inspiring characters along the way. When the cities dry out, the weight is lifted, and the crew finds themselves skiing neck deep powder, and pushing the limits of jumping.

Fuck yeah. Woke up shit-early and had to do some skating. Rasmus and Andreas were down, quick breakfast and then we were off to Amager to dig up some spots. After a couple of hours, a pizza and a red soda we went to Nørrebro. Lovely day – there ya go.

While the entire Supra team was destroying Europe this summer we hooked up with Erik Ellington for a talk about his involvement in the industry and why he hates deadlines. Erik is a super mellow, very down to earth and ultra polite guy. He’s also an amazing skateboarder and it was a pleasure to spend some time hanging out and watch him stick almost everything he tried at fælledparken.

Whipped past the almost-finished skate and multi park in Helsingør this morning to get an early look and check some lines. The security guard sitting in his mini red car wouldn’t let me in though – it must have been a boring 12 hour shift. Since I don’t roll with a zoom and wanted to get up close I came back a few hours later and met the supervisors – a lovely couple who are going to be managing the park and helping out the kids – who were excited to let me in to get a couple of shots.

The park opens 11/11/2011 at 11am.

This skatepark looks insane; The skate-ready part is mostly trannies but features small, medium, large and death-sized to keep everyone entertained for years. The unfinished bit is a series of stairs and ledges which looks set to be super rad once tiled up. There’s an huge parkour area, chill spots and an office one can only guess houses first aid bits and power for the stereo.

There’s a main stage for shows, they’re putting hammocks in the trees and a restaurant on the hill. From what I saw today DSB is going to start earning some money for once on the hordes of skateboarders who’ll be making the trip up to the park. Well done all involved!

Even in Venice, CA – the birthplace of skating – skaters gonna skate!

This past Saturday afternoon we witnessed some of the sickest skating that’s gone down at the newly opened Fælledparken skatepark in Copenhagen yet. A party-ready Volcom hosted the final of its summer-long contest series Wild in the Parks for a full house of local spectators and foreign guests. Ben Powell from Sidewalk blessed us with his Northern wit and keen eye for tricks as speaker, while seemingly being the only person to be getting free beers.

Later on there was an after party at Bakken where the bartender was pretty pumped over having to deny pretty much everyone, or at least ask them for ID. The new Sidewalk Magazine film was shown on a hack-job rig we threw up on the wall and thanks to Volcom, Bitchslap, Bakken and Street Machine there were free beers and yummy tapas to keep our mouths full. Pelle kept us on our toes with good tunes.

As always ending with a product toss, that shit never gets old for the kids.  A bloody good end to a grand series. Bravo Volcom!

This Saturday is the Volcom Stone’s Wild in the Parks European Champs at Fælledparken which culminates an incredible summer of skaters and brings together riders from 19 countries. It’s all going down at Fælledparken (Rain: Copenhagen Skatepark) with check in from 11am and skating from 12.

The skaters are beefing over a €5000 prize purse and the chance to compete at the Amsterdam Am and the WITP US champs including hotels, flights and being surrounding by Texan babes.

It’s free to spectate so stick your head in, and don’t forget the WITP Mop UP After Party is at Bakken from 9pm where there’ll be free beers for early birds and tunes from Pelle and Ghettosoul.

Yea Norway is dope (which is even more apparent in episode 1 of this series), especially cos they build huge booters that people can hit at 3am in the never-setting sun. I don’t care what time of day it is, I’m not dropping in on that thing – but check Gigi Rüf and Nicolas Müller (looks like you need an ü in your surname to ride for Nike these days) and the rest of the crew and they blaze this set up.

In July, the Emerica team with Leo Romero, Brandon Westgate, Andrew Reynolds, Bryan Herman, Kevin ‘Spanky’ Long and Jerry Hsu came to Euroland. Fellow Emerica riders Eniz Fazliov, Tom Knox, Rob Maatman, Vladik Scholz and Helder Lima joined the team to represent the European Emerica contingent. We spotted them in Berlin doing a bit of skating and tons of partying. They also stopped off in Norway and Finland. I wouldn’t really call that a Euro tour, but the footy is all the same – dope!

Dropping in a flash (hitting European stores in September) is Levi’s new Black tab streetwear collection and to kick it off in style they’ve had the good sense to hire Simon Weyhe to create this short masterpiece which was made in Berlin during fashion week.
