Back in issue 11 we did a feature called Fuck the kids where we briefly showcased a bunch of up and coming talents who were more or less well on their way to doing great things – if not already doing them – but greater things were definitely on the horizon. One of these kids was August Fenger, aka, ELOQ. As the producer behind most of Kidd’s hugely successful tracks on Cheff Records, he’s a young tech wizz with an eye for talent and skills on the decks.
Here’s his first video release. Obviously no longer a kid, we can’t fuck with that. 

Lasse is in Paris on a serious study trip with his class from Fatamorgana. He’s being dragged from museum to museum to check out the works of famous photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson and Diane Arbus. He’s more eager to run around with his own camera, Paris being shit cold and quite big has so far resulted in sore knees, ankles and a eye-infection is in the cooker. Meanwhile he does manage to get some shots once in a while – here’s a bit from the past three days.

Simon Weyhe drops the Goodwind showreel for last year that has had him on the road for months and in the cutting room for even longer. Goodwind’s reel gives us a wee peek into some of the commercial and pro bono projects they’ve been up to over the last little bit. Props from here – you’ve come a long way.

Despite the apparent rainy summer, the Streetmachine team put together this short but comprehensive video. With some of Denmark’s best riders in the crew, this is well worth a watch, or 2. Curious though – there’s not a drop of rain in the film.

Carhartt WIP(thats Work In Progress aka Carhartt Streetwear aka Euro-Carhartt) just opened their second store in the streets of tiny Copenhagen. As shown in an earlier post, the shop is located in Wood Wood’s old space in Krystalgade. They’ve redone the entire shop and the outcome is great; minimalistic, spacious and very Carhartt-ish. I personally took some iPhone photos for your viewing pleasure, but should probably just get off your butt and go check out the shop yourself.

Sidewalk shop

Here’s a quaint wee vid from one of our close friends, Luis Lane, who handcrafts all sorts of leathery goods but is most well known for her footwear. Having just graduated with shining grades from Polimoda in Italy she’s on the fast track to… international recognition where she’ll definitely have to get some extra hands to help sew the soles on those shoes.

And especially cos the late 360 shuv over the waist high bench is fucking mind blowing,  you’re just cock teasing by not showing more. But on the bright side, Penny is brilliant in everything he does.

To see the summer out we ganged up with Street Machine, NikeSB, Volcom, Enjoi and Guld Tuborg for a chill out session, bbq and some casual competing at one of Copenhagen’s most skated ledge spots.
The weather was on our side and we nailed the beers and dogs before you could say Thomas Gade super fast lipslide big spin out.
We had so many prizes that it turned to a tic-tac race and product toss to get rid of it all and by the time the cops showed we were pretty much done anyway so it was no biggie.

Despite the rain and against all odds, a few hundred of you came out and helped us celebrate the release of issue 11 at Kødboderne.
The Almost World Famous Bitchslap Magazine Dancing Competition at Copenhagen Distortion 2010. Jeepers, there were a lot of you!
Curator of the latest train graffiti bible called All City Writers, Andrea Caputo gives us the low down on the movement of train graffiti from New York to Europe while on a book tour with Carhartt.

Whipped past the almost-finished skate and multi park in Helsingør this morning to get an early look and check some lines. The security guard sitting in his mini red car wouldn’t let me in though – it must have been a boring 12 hour shift. Since I don’t roll with a zoom and wanted to get up close I came back a few hours later and met the supervisors – a lovely couple who are going to be managing the park and helping out the kids – who were excited to let me in to get a couple of shots.

The park opens 11/11/2011 at 11am.

This skatepark looks insane; The skate-ready part is mostly trannies but features small, medium, large and death-sized to keep everyone entertained for years. The unfinished bit is a series of stairs and ledges which looks set to be super rad once tiled up. There’s an huge parkour area, chill spots and an office one can only guess houses first aid bits and power for the stereo.

There’s a main stage for shows, they’re putting hammocks in the trees and a restaurant on the hill. From what I saw today DSB is going to start earning some money for once on the hordes of skateboarders who’ll be making the trip up to the park. Well done all involved!

Totally on the fashion tip today, this just in from the lovely folks over at Libertine Libertine: The AW11 inseason lookbook featuring Dino the model and a strong selection of shirting, chinos and knits. I’m down. Local shit rules. 

On Friday the 7th of October Dutch gallerist Your:Own opens the exhibition MY:SELF & YOUR:OWN and you’re invited.

The exhibition marks the start of the Danish office of YOUR:OWN, a young contemporary arts gallery and agency from Amsterdam. Having worked in Amsterdam for years his own gallery, EIGHT magazine and numerous projects with commercial clients (including Nike and Red Bull). YOUR:OWN is now expanding into Scandinavia, starting in Denmark.

MY:SELF & YOUR:OWN hosts a selection of international artists such as Hedof (NL), SCRMN (DK), Lasse Netterstrom (DK), Gijs Kast (NL), Pinkyvision (UK), X-O (US), Jordy van den Niewendijk (NL) and many more.

Local Copenhagen videographer, Niels Borup, did this short portrait of a guy you don’t wanna meet in a dark alley. Quality stuff.

Due to the new metroline popping up all over Copenhagen, an historic tree was to be put to sleep at Enghave Plads yesterday. Heaps of people gathered to say goodbye to the 114 year old tree, which has long been a symbolic part of Vesterbro. A couple of activists joined as well, blocking the path for the machines so they couldn’t do their job. Scientists have been involved to check the tree’s condition – deeming it too rotten for the tree to be relocated. Local hobos sat around the tree under which some of them have been sitting, drinking, singing and fucking for up to 50 years.

Sigurd Elling, Petter Brandberg and Kristian Bartholin Holm – three artists from Copenhagen – have developed an idea to reuse the tree and make sculptures from it, which are to be placed on the same spot which the tree is now. Sidewalk Skateshop also pitched an idea about making a skateboard from the wood.

This past Saturday afternoon we witnessed some of the sickest skating that’s gone down at the newly opened Fælledparken skatepark in Copenhagen yet. A party-ready Volcom hosted the final of its summer-long contest series Wild in the Parks for a full house of local spectators and foreign guests. Ben Powell from Sidewalk blessed us with his Northern wit and keen eye for tricks as speaker, while seemingly being the only person to be getting free beers.

Later on there was an after party at Bakken where the bartender was pretty pumped over having to deny pretty much everyone, or at least ask them for ID. The new Sidewalk Magazine film was shown on a hack-job rig we threw up on the wall and thanks to Volcom, Bitchslap, Bakken and Street Machine there were free beers and yummy tapas to keep our mouths full. Pelle kept us on our toes with good tunes.

As always ending with a product toss, that shit never gets old for the kids.  A bloody good end to a grand series. Bravo Volcom!

Everybody’s favourite illustrator Jakob Tolstrup had yet another opening at Mohs yesterday. We schmoozed past for an afternoon beer and snappped a couple of pics.

Earlier today I swung by our sign man Kim from Lauridsen Skilte to pick up a couple of banners. It’s highly likely you’ve seen his work: he’s the go-to-guy for a lot of local businesses here including Street Machine, Le Fix, Carhartt and a bunch of fashiony brands. While I was there I snapped a couple of pics of his workshop.

This Saturday is the Volcom Stone’s Wild in the Parks European Champs at Fælledparken which culminates an incredible summer of skaters and brings together riders from 19 countries. It’s all going down at Fælledparken (Rain: Copenhagen Skatepark) with check in from 11am and skating from 12.

The skaters are beefing over a €5000 prize purse and the chance to compete at the Amsterdam Am and the WITP US champs including hotels, flights and being surrounding by Texan babes.

It’s free to spectate so stick your head in, and don’t forget the WITP Mop UP After Party is at Bakken from 9pm where there’ll be free beers for early birds and tunes from Pelle and Ghettosoul.
