Format Perspective creator Phil Evans swung through the mailbox with this edit he made while touring Slovenia and Sweden to promote the film. As a relaxed add-on to his official business, this short film featuring Emma Lindgren, Oliver Schonqvist, Craig Scott, Jake Snelling and David Stenstrom is filmed experimentally with Super 8, HD and with a few illustrations tossed in for good measure.

Amazing light sculptures from NYC based artist Dev Harlan. This one is “Parmenides I” from his “Astral Flight Hangar” solo show at the Christopher Henry Gallery last year. You can also check his vimeo channel for more lighting locura.

Director Braden King’s beautiful film ‘Here’ had it’s premiere in New York on the 13th of April and it has some screenings at the IFC Center this week that you should catch, even if you think you don’t have time. 

The film’s DOP, Lol Crawley was interviewed in the last issue of Bitchslap Mag and one of the film’s first reviews in the New York Times noted that, “visually, ‘Here’, filmed by Lol Crawley, is a stunner”.

I couldn’t agree more.

We slept on episode 2, but here’s number 3 featuring the Danish Nike SB team destroying Shanghai in a well produced film by Defekt. Good evening viewing.

Once again we spent a few days in the fantastic Austrian capital of Innsbruck for the Billabong Air & Style 2012, presented by Burn. The film’s taken a while to chop together but here it is, in all its glory. A huge thanks to 2-meter Peter for his mad clipping skills. It was freaking cold in the mountains but we got a day riding some relatively fresh pow and had a blast at the Burn Fire & Steel Rail contest on the main street the night before the main event. The contest was a sell out with a 13000-strong public braving the cold and rocking out to some of the world’s best riders dropping switch bs 1260 doubles all over the place.

In celebration of International Women’s Day,  on Thursday 8th March, the WOW Festival is being held between the 7-11 of March at the Southbank Centre in London.

The programme looks excellent, a feast on the achievements of women with plenty of lively debate, music and workshops to get involved with. Some highlights include:

‘Ironing it out’, a debate about whether Thatcher is a feminist icon! is sure to stir some raw emotions…. and Shami Chakrabarti will likely tell a inspiring story of women’s struggle for freedom in the ‘Women, Power and Change’ talk on Saturday at 1030.

In terms of music the ‘We are equals‘ gig sounds good, hosted by Annie Lennox and including Katy B, Jess Mills Emeli Sandé.

New to the program this year is the chance to have a 15-minute speed mentoring session and share your challenge with a range of high-level experts, from theatre directors to geoscientists.

This completely brilliant film was made by Jarbas Agnelli and Keith Loutit. Using the tilt shift method, it captures a teeny tiny Rio de Janeiro and the Carnaval from 2011, with music by Jarbas Agnelli (although it does sound very Phillip Glass by the end).

Both Jarbas Agnelli & Keith Loutit were finalists at YouTube play, a Biennial of Creative Video at the Guggenheim, the rest of the entries can be found ‘ere.

This brilliantly filmed and cut clip from Swedish Defekt shows the Danish Nike SB team rolling into China late last year (a little too late for us to publish the photos unfortunately).  Featuring Hjalte Halberg, Anton Juul, Nis Andersen, Morten Bech during a ten day stay in Shanghai, China with additional appearance by Danijel Stankovic, Nils Svensson, Henrik Svan, Charles Lanceplaine and Luypa Sin.

When I was a kid, Dave Lee, now the owner of Signal Snowboards, was one of my favourite riders to watch together with his buddy Todd Scholsser. We stumbled over Signal’s Every Third Thursday project recently where they mess with snowboards to make them ride differently. In this week’s episode they stuff some air tubes in the core which is pretty weird, but the process and results were rad to watch.

With this years Berlinale festival drawing to a close I’m wishing I’d watched more films and drank slightly less to celebrate such rich cinematic diversity, but a couple of documentaries did stick in my memory and really are worth a watch.

Side by Side is a doc that ‘investigates the history, process and workflow of both digital and photochemical film creation. Keanu Reeves interviews directors, cinematographers, colorists, scientists, engineers and artists to reveal their experiences and feelings about working with film and digital formats.

Marley is a completely dope film on the life, music, and legacy of Bob Marley with, as you might think, a bunch of new footage and material never seen before.
The film takes a chronological approach, from his 1940s childhood of desperate poverty in the mountains of Jamaica after his black mother is abandoned by his white father, Captain Norval Marley. The bastard!.
Although.., saying that I reckon just the name ‘Norval‘… makes me think Bob might have dodged a bullet early on in life, although that bullet did sadly catch up with him at a later date.

This short clip featuring Eric Elms is shot by photographer Peter Sutherland and to be found on Offthewall.tv. It tracks Eric Elms through Tokyo during his “Wish You Were Here” exhibition at Common Gallery late 2011. It’s cool to hear his thoughts about zines on this nicely made mini-doc.

The Baker Banked Slalom is an institution in snowboarding. Baker is one of those places we haven’t made it past yet, and it hurts. Just look at that hill! It’s the snowboard equivalent of not checking the Eiffel Tower while in Paris. Riding Baker is my goal in life.

That aside, we just picked up on the news that Terje Haakonsen won this thing, again. For the 7th time. Big ups to the man himself, who of course, is one of my personal idols and helped lay the tracks that are modern snowboarding (the good parts).

Thomas Horn (born 1997) is about as close to fresh new talent as you can get.
Born in San Francisco, Horn was first spotted in 2010 when he won the ‘Kids week’ version of the American gameshow Jeopardy! and was subsequently offered an audition for the role of Oskar Schellis, in what would be his first film, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (2011).
With one of his co stars, the legendary Max von Sydow looking on, he pretty much stole the show during the film’s press conference at the Berlinale film festival over the weekend and I’d certainly say he’s one to watch in the future.
