Critically acclaimed New York indie artist, Mitski, played at Ideal Bar – VEGA in Copenhagen last night, gifting tears of joy to the melancholic, broken-hearted souls out there. Unafraid to touch on anxiety, love and other broody subjects, she paid hommage to a quintessential 90s grunge sound and as expected she added an emotional level of darkness to the room.

Mitski was exceptional live, playing to an intimate crowd with energy. A good handful of enthusiastic voices could be heard singing with her lines such as;

“So please hurry leave me, I can’t breathe. Please don’t say you love me. One word from you and I would jump off of this ledge I’m on baby”.

Mitski was gracefully melodic, but not for the faint-hearted. She’s been compared to Angel Olsen, but her sound is more violent and resentful—a varsity-style angst more similar to early Liz Phair. Mitski is honest and raw, lyrically challenging and completely rewarding. Listen to her under here.
