Modeselektor’s show last night at Roskilde Festival started like any other ordinary rave. But then as the beat built up a few people started to clear an empty space in the middle of the crowd. They pushed back and back and finally when the beat dropped they ran face first into each other with whoops of pure joy. They repeated this process over and over, hyping each other across the divide, and descending into full contact dancing, fist up, elbows out. Then someone put a empty bottle on the ground, the winner being the first person to touch it once the beat dropped. Their hands outstretched grasping at this bottle, their young faces were contorted in apprehension. What a spectacle.
