ROGIER’S BLOCK ANIMATION

25 February 2010 45 views No Comment

You remember when acid was cool? I could sit around and watch trippy stuff all day. Well acid fell off to its stupider cousin cocaine, and trippy shit turned into stop motion animation. Today, I was greeted in my inbox by Rogier van der Zwaag, director of this sick block film, asking if I would kindly post it. I was like yea sweet and watched the film, all good. But it was first when I saw the making that I got excited. I mostly love that they hate him and call him an asshole.

The song is unfortunately named Grindin’ by Nobody Beats The Drum, an Amsterdam based Elektro gang. Sound familiar? No it’s not stolen from NBTB or The Wiz. They’re currently lined up to play in Istanbul and spots around France. Personally it sounds perfect for this year’s Copenhagen Distortion, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Blocks blocks blocks. This animation is carefully and patiently woven together from 4085 individual photos. Just the thought of putting something like that together makes me ass twitch – do you ever get that feeling?

Below is the making of, and below below is the flick. You choose which order but watch ‘em both. I know you have time. Co-animator Susie Oosting would be proud.
